The vintage steamer teak lounger chair is a lasting legacy from large passenger ship travel that was historically reserved as a luxury for the rich upper crust of society to cross the oceans on pleasure trips. These large vessels were the forerunners to the cruise ships that we know today. The steamer chair was ultimately designed for maximum comfort on the public decks of these massive ships. As a lasting legacy from this era the design still remains popular in many forms today. Our modern take on the classic design is hand made from the highest grade teak complete with solid brass fittings that were so characteristic in the original designs. The cut handle in the backrest allows you to move it around easily, again, another stand out feature of the original design. It’s also adjustable in five positions with a removable footrest! It’s perfect for use both indoors and out so will look good outside for sunbathing purposes or in a steam room or even around an indoor pool. Just like the originals our luxury design will last for years and the wood will age gracefully to the silver grey patina that is common, and so desirable, in teak. It is possible, for purely cosmetic purposes, to restore the aged timber back to the original honey coloured aspect simply by using mild, soapy water and elbow grease.
